Q&A with The Salon

We’re so thrilled to welcome you to the Blue Star Arts Complex as our newest tenant! Tell everyone a little about The Salon and what they can expect to find when they visit you.

The Salon offers quality custom framing with a remarkably fast turn around (usually 7 days depending on the project) as well as art prints, photography, sculpture, home furnishings and curios. Our staff are happy to aid in the design of each custom frame job based on the desired look each client is hoping to achieve. It’s an all-around fun experience visiting the shop, chatting with the staff and having a look at all that is on display.

The Salon has some gorgeous and unique sculptures available for purchase. How and where do you source these works from?

The sculpture’s on display in the front window are by San Antonio based artist and professor of Sculpture at UTSA, Ken Little as well as works from Box Studios. Our owner and director, Susan Oliver Heard has cultivated relationships with all the artists displayed in the shop.

What made you choose Blue Star as your home?

The space at Blue Star was chosen due to its proximity to the arts community. There is a lack of framing shop options in the Southtown / Downtown area and we saw an opportunity to offer high quality custom framing with a 7 to 10 day turn around time to the members of this community. Can we expect to see any artist exhibitions or events in the future?

We held our Grand Opening on February 1st of this year and had the honor of hosting artist Ana Fernandez in the shop. Ana hand tinted, on-site, a print from one of her Las Princesas editions that we are selling exclusively through The Salon. We will be open First Thursday’s and Fridays for those who cannot make it during our regular business hours and are planning our next event but are not releasing the details yet however, you can expect to always see excellent and exciting work in the shop and to get the highest quality framing done here.
