MORE ABOUT RED DOT:
The Red Dot Art Sale annual fundraiser supports the nonprofit’s dynamic contemporary art exhibitions, education programs like the MOSAIC Student Artist Program, professional development programs for artists, and numerous community outreach efforts while remaining a favorite celebration of local artists, collectors, and contemporary art enthusiasts.
Red Dot supports San Antonio’s artists and its longest-running space for contemporary art through sponsorship and art sales. With 100 artworks offered for sale with the proceeds equally shared between the contributing artists and BSC, Red Dot introduces San Antonio artists to collectors by fostering relationships, cultivating the arts community, and enriching the creative economy.
Artist Paula Owen
A practicing artist, Paula Owen holds an MFA in painting and printmaking and continues to exhibit her work in group and solo shows throughout the nation. Owen is a published arts writer and coauthored Objects and Meaning: New Perspectives on Art and Craft with M. Anna Fariello. She’s served on national and regional boards and panels, including for the Pew Artist Fellowships, the Bush Foundation Fellowships, and the National Endowment for the Arts. As the President of nonprofit Southwest School of Art for more than twenty years, she helped establish SSA as Texas’ only independent college of art in 2016. She received the City of San Antonio Distinction in the Arts Award in 2017 for her arts administration work.
Arts Patron James Lifshutz
With a lifetime of service to arts and culture organizations and citywide arts celebrations, Lifshutz is the visionary businessman behind San Antonio’s first mixed-use development focused on our vibrant art community — the thriving Blue Star Arts Complex, which BSC has called home since 1986. Recently quoted in the San Antonio Business Journal, Lifshutz states, “Art is economic development. […] Blue Star proved that.” His longstanding passion for history and the arts created a legacy of revitalizing the forgotten buildings and land in an artful and authentic way that lifts the human spirit and makes San Antonio a more interesting place.
