An Evening with John Duncan
November 13, 2016 8:00 pm - November 13, 2016 10:30 pm
Yesmissolga and FL!GHT Gallery are pleased to present a rare evening with John Duncan.
The evening will start with his recent films followed by a concert of Mantra.
John Duncan has been pushing boundaries of performance art and music for more than forty years – Cal Arts class of ’73 where he studied under Allan Kaprow. He is a long Standing member of the Los Angeles Free Music Society (LAFMS) along with Paul McCarthy, Mike Kelly and Tom Rechion. Other collaborations include work with Carl Michael Von Hausswolff, Jim O’Rourke and Oren Ambarchi among countless others. He has done various soundtracks, events, installations, pirate radio and TV, performances and recordings throughout the world. Currently he is a professor at the University of Bologna and is on tour in the Americas.
His recent work some have argued is an unexpected departure from his more visceral experimental sounds. Don’t be fooled, this is still the master of confrontation; he himself has said “when audiences stiffen their resolve expecting to be shocked or outraged, seduction can be even more powerfully disorienting and equally effective to direct attention inward again which in my case is the reason behind making the art in the first place.”
It’s the kind of show that’s more of an exhibition sure to surprise than anything else. This one night only performance is something you’ll definitely want to see. John Duncan, the multimedia world renonwn artist at FL!GHT, warping minds with projections and the convergence of sound, all while Hills Snyder’s ‘Altered States’ is surrounding us in the main space.
