ABRAXAS Exhibition Opening

Blue Star Arts Collective

June 4, 2021 6:00 pm - June 4, 2021 10:00 pm

Artist and educator, Magda Chellet is having an exhibition at the Blue Star Arts Collective during the month of June that opens First Friday, June 4, 2021 from 6-10 p.m. The show is called ABRAXAS and is inspired by psychological concepts about the integration of opposing dualities such as light and dark, good and evil in the personality and in the world. The paintings are painted in a symbolic, expressionistic manner mostly in red and black portraying an apocalyptic vision of the new millennium. Magda recently retired from teaching English at the Defense Language Institute where she worked for fifteen years in order to secure her retirement. She started this career at age 65. Before that, she had an illustrious career as an artist. She was very active In exhibitions at Centro Cultural Aztlan and was instrumental in the shows of the Women’s Caucus for the Arts. She was well-known for her paintings and for her hand- painted ceramic platters, cups and dishes. Magda has been my mentor, role model and intellectual and artistic companion for nearly thirty years. She has cancer of the blood and this may be her last show. Her daughter, artist Marcy McChesney is helping me hang the show. The Blue Star Arts Collective is a group of artists dedicated to personal, cultural and social growth and transformation through the arts. The organization  is directed by artist, teacher and curator Deborah Keller-Rihn, 210.800.5441deborahkellerrihn.com
