A Project by Benjamin Rasmussen and Michael Friberg about the Lives of Syrian Refugees in Jordan

On view September 22 – October 21, 2016

Meet the Artists, September 24th 10am – 5pm

Haus Collective presents the documentary-based work of Benjamin Rasmussen and Michael Friberg in collaboration with the newly organized 4×5 Photo Fest Thursday, September 22nd 6-8pm.

Artists Friberg and Rasmussen have taken their expansive editorial experience and travelled to Jordan, Lebanon to document the plight of Syrian refugees displaced there. Utilizing large and medium format cameras, as well as audio recorders, the friends and collaborators were able to lend their own sophisticated visual language to the crucial documentation of one of the worst humanitarian crises our world has ever seen.

Stirring imagery and poignant narratives come together inside the gallery to more intimately inform audiences of complex events taking place thousands of miles away.  By the Olive Trees is a 64-page color newsprint publication consisting of stories from those affected by the Syrian civil war and will be distributed as part of the exhibition at Haus Collective, also.

In line with its concepts of ‘connection, platform,’ Haus Collective organizes their first-ever panel, Cultural Conversations, to take place during the month-long dedication to this project and its continued funding. The program will center around the complicated and dire human rights crises occurring in Syria and neighboring countries where panelists will inform on the role of the creative community in such situations, issues of heritage, home and the human condition. This event will culminate the exhibition Tuesday, October 18th.
