Call for Art: The Multifaceted Brain of an Artist

The Art, Mind & Science fundraiser by The Foundation for Innovative Research and Scientific Treatment of Mood Disorders (FIRST-MD) will take place at Brick at Blue Star in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm. This event features an art show and is open to all artists. The theme for the exhibition, The Multifaceted Brain of an Artist, is so titled to inspire individual artistic interpretation and expression.

ALL ARTWORK WILL BE JURIED by a panel and 50-75 pieces accepted. Both 2D and 3D artwork are welcome. The call for entries is issued to artists who are able to deliver their artwork to Brick on the day of the event. In addition to selling their artwork, participants will vie for a $1,500 Cash Award in Memoriam of Dr. Vivek Singh, an extraordinary psychiatrist, mentor, father, husband, friend, leader and FIRST-MD Board Member whose enormous contribution to the field of mood disorders was cut short on October 31st, 2015.

The competition is open to artists who are at least 18 years old by January 1, 2016. Professionals as well as students are encouraged to enter. Entries should represent original works of art that address the stated concept of The Multifaceted Brain of an Artist. Pieces must be available for exhibition in San Antonio on Thursday, January 21, 2016. There is no size restriction, but the artwork must be able to fit through the doors. Paintings will be hanged on the walls at Brick. If in doubt about the suitability of very large pieces, please contact FIRST-MD.

Open to all 2D and 3D work. Artists may submit multiple pieces. The jury, composed of FIRST-MD board members, has no collective predisposition towards any particular kind or style of art.

Artists must sign up by submitting the following to subject line ‘Brain submission’ plus artist’s full name, title of work(s), short bio of up to 12-18 sentences, and uploaded digital file(s) representing selected artwork. The digital file(s) must be in JPEG format, no less than 1MB and no greater than 2MB in size. Only digital images can be submitted.Entry images must meet the following specifications: *File Naming: All entry files must be named with the artist’s last name, first name, and entry number*PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT LINKS TO JPEG FILES (GOOGLE DOCS OR OTHERWISE). Images must be oriented properly.

Submitting the entry indicates that you agree with the conditions of the entry and exhibit as outlined and that you agree to make your work available and will deliver and pick up your work from Brick should it be selected for exhibit on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Should you be selected you also agree to allow your images to be used for promotion of the event.

All work accepted for exhibition must arrive ready to install. Works not gallery-ready, or not exhibiting good craftsmanship, may be omitted from the exhibit. Accepted work that differs significantly from the entry images or suffers from poor presentation will be disqualified.

The artist is responsible to insure their work. In addition, FIRST-MD is not responsible for any damage to artwork caused by faulty mounting systems.

Artwork will be available for sale during the Art and Mind-Science event. FIRST-MD will retain a commission of 50% of the sale price on all artwork sold during the exhibition. Artists will set the sale price on the entry form. Note: general admission for this event is $120. Selected artists will be given free admission.
