Hello Studio Opens for ‘Christina is a Coward,’ by Resident Artist Megan Solis
June 30, 2016 6:00 pm
Hello Studio is pleased to present Christina is a Coward an exhibition featuring the work of Megan Solis. Solis is the second resident artist in Hello Studio’s recently renovated space within the Upstairs Studios at the Blue Star Arts Complex. A recent graduate of UTSA, Solis concentrated on painting and performance art with a strong conceptual practice. Locally, she has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at The Lullwood Group, Silkworm Gallery, UTSA Main Gallery, High Wire Arts Gallery, San Antonio Art League Museum, and R Gallery and has gained international experience and exposure through a 2015 artist residency at Arteles Creative Center in Haukijärvi, Finland. Forthcoming, Solis will exhibit as part of a three-person exhibition at the UTSA Main Gallery in the summer of 2017 along with Louie Chavez and John Hernandez.

Solis states, “Christina is a Coward was born out of the misfortune of failed relationships with others. Superficial high school tropes play a major theme in this exhibition as such mechanisms are used to analyze truths as well as facades within social anxieties and unsuccessful human connections. With this particular body of work, the hope is to recognize the external and internal pressures to pursue and perform happiness even when fixed with anxiety, depression, and disappointment.”
Christina is a Coward will showcase new assemblage and collage works as well as three performances by Solis. The performances will take place on 6/30, 7/1, and 8/5 at 8:30pm. The exhibition is accompanied by a fully-illustrated exhibition catalogue published by Hello Studio with essays by Alana Coates, Marco Aquino, Gabriella Boschi Scott, Isabel Servantez, and Tatiana Uhoch. The writers delve into topics ranging from anxiety, resistance, and the grotesque within her artistic practice.
