Jorge Villarreal: WET Closing
January 5, 2017 7:00 pm - January 5, 2017 9:00 pm
Join Hello Studio for the closing exhibition of WET, a series of new works by Jorge Villarreal. WET is an ongoing project that Villarreal began in Havana, Cuba during the summer of 2016. In this series, Villarreal uses spontaneous collections of condensation, water, or soap as a filter to create dreamlike landscapes. The interaction between surface and substance creates blurred forms that lack structure and line resulting in color fields that occupy our space and blur reality.
Jorge Villarreal (b. 1986) was born in McAllen, Texas. He currently lives and works in San Antonio where he studies photography at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Since 2010 Villarreal has been traveling to Cuba and Mexico, documenting the seemingly mundane days and nights of ordinary people. His work is focused around organic occurrences, often out of his comfort zone. Villarreal enjoys removing all points of references in order to experience and capture the raw nature of life and the beauty of imperfection.
Hello Studio is an independent artist-run gallery and studio residency that hosts exhibitions showcasing emerging visual artists in and around Texas. It is directed by Amada Miller and Justin Korver.
