Magic Time Machine

by Ana Fernandez and Hiromi Stringer UTSA Department of Art and Art History
There are things that happen, irreversible processes; you can turn an egg into an omelette, but you cannot turn an omelette into an egg. San Antonio has changed dramatically over the years and with aesthetic and developmental change, comes cultural change.

Two juxtaposing artists at different stages of their careers have been selected to accent this examination of the “arrows of time.”

Ana Fernandez’s paintings capture local cultural landscapes and Hiromi Stringer uses oriental paper and sumi ink to record the journal entries of a Japanese time traveler- Umeyama.

The different layers from each artist are all arrows dissecting the epochs of past, present, and future San Antonio. These two artists only cross paths for this show with these works and then they are gone… They are tangential to one another- with only one shared moment in time.
