Stella Ebner Artist Statement:
I draw from contemporary American vernacular to create images that transform the everyday happenstance into iconic images. By looking within the scope of the non-descript over-looked side of modern American life, I am seeking to discover the imagery that defines us as a culture – images of spaces, events and moments that are so ubiquitous they are largely ignored, but when held up to the viewer they become a place of self-recognition. I have focused my work on disrupting how one’s perception can be dulled by the routine of everyday American life – illuminating what is lost in those in-between moments and revealing a deeper, more meaningful essence. I am concerned with finding the intersection between the perception of the everyday – the mundane, the overlooked, the routine – and the perception of the spiritual.
Emily Fleisher Artist Statement:
My work plays with ideas of spirituality embedded within the home and daily routine. I pluck elements from my immediate surroundings and manipulate the boundaries between interior and exterior space, and the familiar and remote.
For the past five years my immediate surroundings have been the suburbs of San Antonio. As I settled in, I became hypersensitive to the things that pop out as atypical in the rather monotonous suburban landscape. These interruptions break my expectations of my environment and feel like mini moments of revelation.
This exhibition is free and open to the public.
