T Hopkins: Plasticity
March 4, 2016 6:00 pm - March 4, 2016 9:00 pm
Hello Studio hosts T. Hopkins’ new body of work entitled, Plasticity.
Hopkins began his residency in December of 2015, as Hello Studio’s first resident artist. His new body of work explores the idea of adaptability in several ways; environmental, material, and theoretical. As a painter Hopkins explores plasticity using unorthodox and unassuming materials to create his paintings, including plastic bags, depressurized aerosol cans, and other debris. Hopkins considers these discarded objects as raw canvas for creating paintings.
Hello Studio’s 5th anniversary will launch a new location and concept. The gallery, which has hosted over 50 emerging artists from around Texas under the direction of founder Amada Miller, will add a studio residency to its existing exhibition program. March 4th, the First Friday of Contemporary Art Month, marks the opening of the newly renovated gallery located at the Upstairs Studios at Blue Star. Additionally, the new space houses three artist studios–one designated for the new two-month residency and the others for Hello Studio co-directors Amada Miller and Taylor Bates.
Hello Studio is an independent artist-run gallery and art space that hosts exhibitions showcasing emerging visual artists in and around Texas. It is directed by Amada Miller and Taylor Bates.
