Opening at Terminal 136
Coming to Terminal 136: Once Upon A Time, an art exhibition by Taylor Maupin. Be the first to get a look at her works, on Thursday, July 5th.
In this MFA Thesis exhibition, Taylor Maupin uses personal, reoccuring dreams and blurred memories to create her work. Once Upon A Time is an installation in which the viewer is invited to immerse themselves in a domestic setting. The exhibition focuses on childhood trauma and how a person is affected throughout their lifetime. In her approach, Maupin forces the viewer to ask questions about issues such as mental illness, coping mechanisms, sexual abuse, and violence. Once Upon A Time features a variety of media from ceramics to found objects. Visitors are invited to engage with the space and become voyeurs into this world.
This exhibition is FREE, open to the public, and will be on display until July 21st. Visit Terminal 136, Thursday’s – Saturday’s from noon to 5pm, or book an appointment by emailing Houston.Fryer@utsa.edu
More about Terminal 136
Terminal 136 is the off-campus gallery of the Department of Art and Art History of the University of Texas at San Antonio, located in the Southtown Art District. Since the Satellite Space (our previous gallery)’s first exhibition in 1993, UTSA’s downtown presence has become one of San Antonio’s most respected venues for challenging contemporary art. Graduate students typically have their MFA Thesis exhibitions at Terminal 136, and twice a year we put out a call to invite students, local artists, as well as nationally recognized artists to submit exhibition proposals. Exhibitions are free and open to the public.
